Product search for a jewellery store: gifts, budgets and the fear of the wrong signal
A jewellery shopper is usually buying for someone else and is afraid of getting it wrong. They describe the person, the budget and the message the gift might send. That is a conversation with a counter assistant, which a search box cannot have.

What shoppers actually type
Shortened phrasings from public r/jewelry threads, September 2026. Shoppers rarely type a product name; they type a situation.
- “Gold, rose gold … doesn’t like flashy … budget up to 2k”, for a girlfriend who likes rings and necklaces
- “Looking at getting as a gift but don’t want to get scammed”
- A ring may read as a hint at engagement; people ask for a pendant or earrings instead
- Replies from other people ask back: what does she wear now, how long have you been together
Why a search box misses them
“Not flashy” is a judgement, not a tag. “Safe alternative to a ring” is a social reason. Neither matches a product title, and a metal and price filter can narrow the shelf without saying which piece fits.
What the answer looks like
This is an illustration of the form of an answer, not a real store or a real product. In a live answer the product’s name, price and stock are read from your catalogue by product ID. The reason line is written by the AI, labelled as such, and can be wrong.
“For my girlfriend, gold, nothing flashy, up to 2000, not a ring.”
One piece from your catalogue, as a product card with the name, price and stock exactly as your store lists them.
An example of the kind of line it writes: “A fine gold pendant, understated, which matches no ring and no flashy look.”
What it will not do
It does not know a ring size, certify a hallmark or judge authenticity beyond what your product pages state. It answers from what the shopper writes and from your catalogue, not from a counter assistant’s judgement. Keep your metal, stone, size and care details in the product data and descriptions, since that is what it reads.
When nothing fits
If nothing in your catalogue matches, the assistant says so instead of showing something almost right. Where your consent settings allow, it offers to take a contact (email, phone, WhatsApp or Telegram) and writes the request to the Not found view of your Requests tab, in the words the shopper used. You see what people want that you do not stock.
