Setting it up
Seven steps. Only the third one asks anything of you.
Install the app
From the Shopify App Store. Shopify shows you the permissions it asks for — your products, your published languages and a narrow view of orders — and installs it.
Say what the shop sells
One question, asked once. It decides how the assistant reads your catalogue: a warm jacket and a warm colour are not the same word to it.
Switch the block on in your theme
Online Store, Themes, Customize, App embeds: switch Assistant on and save. The Install tab opens that screen for you. Nothing is pasted and no theme file is changed.
Wait for the catalogue
Reading starts on its own. A few dozen products take about two minutes, and the Install tab says when it finished.
Try it as a shopper
Open your storefront. A button appears in the corner. Describe something the way a customer would, and see what comes back and why.
Set the look
The Look tab: colour, side of the screen, button or bar. It takes your accent colour and leaves the rest of your design alone.
After a day, open the Not found view in Requests
By then there are questions in it: what shoppers asked for and your catalogue could not answer, in their own words.
If the button does not appear
The Install tab answers this instead of you guessing. It shows whether the widget ever loaded on a live storefront, on which host and when. Almost always it is one of three things: the block is switched on in a theme that is not the published one, it was switched on but not saved, or the storefront is being viewed through an address the shop has not published.
What to do next
Nothing, for a week. The catalogue refreshes on its own, and the demand report only means something once real people have used it.
